Smart Energy GB response to the BEIS quarterly report on smart meter installations

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has published statistics for smart meter installations from January to March 2018.

Robert Cheesewright, Director of Policy and Communications at Smart Energy GB, said:

"The latest government figures show that more than 11 million smart meters have now been installed across Great Britain, transforming the way millions of people buy and use their gas and electricity. Smart meters mean the end of manual meter readings and inaccurate estimated bills, helping people to save money and reduce energy waste.

"People with smart meters are already experiencing the benefits. our research shows that more than eight in ten people say that they have a better idea of what they are spending on energy thanks to their smart meter and around three quarters say they would recommend one to friends, family or neighbours."

About Smart Energy GB

Smart Energy GB is the voice of the rollout. It's our task to help everyone in Great Britain understand smart meters, the national rollout and how to use their new meters to get their gas and electricity under control.

About smart meters and the rollout

Smart meters are replacing the traditional meters we currently have in our homes. They provide consumers with accurate bills, near real time information on energy usage in pounds and pence, and greater control over their gas and electricity. The smart meter rollout is an essential technology upgrade, unprecedented in its scale, to improve Great Britain's energy infrastructure. Between now and 2020, everyone across England, Scotland and Wales will be offered a smart meter by their energy supplier at no extra cost.

More than 11 million smart meters have already been installed across Great Britain. To find out how you can get a smart meter from your energy supplier or visit smartenergygb.org/get-a-smart-meter
