Smart Energy GB response to the BEIS quarterly report on smart meter installations

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy has published its latest report on statistics for smart meter installations to the end of December 2016.

Claire Maugham, Director of Policy & Communications at Smart Energy GB said:

“Nearly 6 million smart meters have now been installed across Great Britain, transforming the way millions of households buy and use their gas and electricity. Smart meters bring an end to estimated bills and show us what we’re spending in pounds and pence – and those who’ve already had their smart meter installed are reporting a transformation in the way they’re using energy.

“Our most recent Smart energy outlook report shows that eight in ten people with a smart meter would recommend one. And people across Britain are using their smart meters to make positive changes, with 82 per cent of those with a smart meter taking at least one step to reduce their energy use at home. I would urge consumers to contact their energy supplier about their smart meter installation.”

About Smart Energy GB

Smart Energy GB is the voice of the smart meter rollout. It’s our task to help everyone in Great Britain understand smart meters, the national rollout and how to use their new meters to get their gas and electricity under control. Our national campaign is reaching all households and microbusinesses in England, Scotland and Wales.

About smart meters and the rollout

Smart meters replace the traditional meters we currently have in our homes. They enable accurate bills, near real time information on energy use in pounds and pence, and greater control over the way we buy and use energy. The smart meter rollout is an essential technology upgrade, unprecedented in its scale, to improve Great Britain’s energy infrastructure.

Nearly 6 million smart meters have already been installed in homes and microbusinesses, and between now and 2020 every household in England, Scotland and Wales will be offered one at no additional cost. Contact your energy supplier today about installing your smart meter.
