Smart Energy GB response to First Utility statement re: Smart Energy GB’s plans in 2015
There are already half a million smart meters installed in homes across Britain, and thousands more smart meters will be installed in the rest of this year, with the programme of installations significantly ramping up in 2015 and beyond.
It may be for its own commercial reasons that First Utility does not support independent education about smart meters; but it is only a single independent campaign that avoids the wasteful duplication that would come from every energy supplier running its own marketing campaign.
Smart Energy GB’s plans have been designed to carefully match the Government’s projected national roll-out of smart meters, and by working closely through local community groups, charities and partners around the country we will deliver the most efficient and effective communication possible.
Mervyn Kohler of Age UK, a consumer representative on the Board of Smart Energy GB, said: “It is only an independent body like Smart Energy GB that can talk to every household in the country, including those that are most vulnerable, about the national roll-out of smart meters. By delivering an efficient, co-ordinated message through Smart Energy GB, the wasteful costs of different energy suppliers each running their own campaigns about smart meters are avoided. Smart Energy GB’s approach is better value for money and makes most sense.”
