Smart Energy GB response to DECC quarterly report on smart meter installations
Smart Energy GB response to DECC quarterly report on smart meter installations – 31st March 2016
The Department of Energy and Climate Change has published statistics for smart meter installations for October to December 2015.
Responding to DECC’s latest quarterly report on smart meter installations, Sacha Deshmukh, chief executive of Smart Energy GB said:
“These figures are another important milestone for the rollout of smart meters across Great Britain. More than three million smart meters are now installed in homes and microbusinesses which we know are transforming the experience that households have buying and using their energy. Even more consumers are set to reap the benefits of smart meters as the rollout continues to gather pace this year.
“Those who have already upgraded are now benefiting from much greater visibility and control over their energy. Our latest research findings in Smart energy outlook show that eight in ten people with a smart meter would recommend one and 80 per cent have already taken action to save energy."

About smart meters and the rollout
Smart meters will replace the traditional meters we currently have in our homes. They will provide consumers with accurate bills, near real time information on energy usage in pounds and pence, and greater control over their gas and electricity. The smart meter rollout is an essential technology upgrade, unprecedented in its scale, to improve Great Britain’s energy infrastructure. Between now and 2020, everyone across England, Scotland and Wales will be offered a smart meter by their energy supplier at no extra cost. More than three million smart meters have already been installed. Find out how you can get a smart meter from your energy supplier.
