Smart Energy GB recognised as a centre for Excellence in Wellbeing for the second year running

Smart Energy GB, the campaign for a Smarter Britain, has once again been recognised as a centre for Excellence in Wellbeing by Great Place to Work.

This award is in recognition of the organisation's continuing efforts to put employee wellbeing first, while ensuring that all staff can feel safe and comfortable in every aspect of their work life.

Smart Energy GB's workplace culture is focused around three key pillars: craft, cause and community.

The belief in craft enables every individual to practice and grow their skills and knowledge. A dedication to causes, not just its own, means that staff are encouraged to express their passion for issues that matter to them personally and is exemplified by how every staff member can take five days of volunteering leave per annum.

An understanding of the importance of community means that all staff can access benefits such as full gym membership, a cycle to work scheme and free daily breakfast to promote a healthy mind and body. Employees are also given the opportunity to train as mental health first aiders and to shape work place policy by being part of the health and wellbeing employee resource group; Thrive.

Smart Energy GB's thrive team, which is run completely voluntarily by employees, holds regular events to promote staff wellbeing and good mental health such as talking lunches and workshops facilitated by wellbeing professionals.

Sorrel Shalet, Head of People at Smart Energy GB, said:

"I am delighted that Smart Energy GB has been recognised as a centre of Excellence for Wellbeing for the second year running.

"We continue to prioritise providing a healthy and happy working culture for all of our employees, and we take great pride in the steps we've continued to take in making this such a fantastic place to work.

"This recognition is also great validation of all the hard work the team has put into making this such a positive and inclusive environment for our employees."

Smart Energy GB's task is to help everyone in Great Britain understand smart meters, the national rollout and how to use their new meters to be cleaner and greener with their energy use. The award-winning national campaign is reaching households and microbusiness' across England, Scotland and Wales.

About smart meters and the rollout

Britain is committed to a cleaner future - one with zero carbon, zero emissions and reduced pollution.

To make this happen, our nation requires a major upgrade to its energy infrastructure, specifically, it requires the creation of a smart energy system. Smart meters, which replace traditional, analogue meters, are the foundation of a more reliable, clean and affordable energy infrastructure, allowing Great Britain to better manage energy use, transition to mass uptake of electric vehicles and to build a greener economy.

There are already 15.6 million smart meters installed in homes and microbusinesses across Great Britain. Every household in England, Scotland and Wales can now see their energy use in near real time, receive accurate bills and do their bit for the planet, by requesting a smart meter, at no extra cost, from their energy supplier.
