Smart Energy GB appoints new CEO

Smart Energy GB, the national consumer campaign for smart meters, has appointed Chris Taggart as its new CEO.

Chris has been SEGB’s Director of Marketing for the past six years and will succeed Dan Brooke when he steps down in July.

Before joining Smart Energy GB, Chris was COO of leading UK advertising agency AMV BBDO and has more than 25 years of experience leading consumer engagement campaigns at national scale.

As SEGB’s Director of Marketing, Chris has led the development and delivery of the highly successful Einstein marketing campaign, which data shows has been twice as effective as any previous SEGB marketing campaign.

Chris’ appointment follows a comprehensive recruitment process involving more than 100 applicants. The interview panel, comprising Chair Mark Lund and members of SEGB’s Board, interviewed a range of internal and external candidates for the role.

Mark Lund, Smart Energy GB Chair, said: “I’m delighted that we’re appointing Chris and that we’ve found the CEO to succeed Dan from within the organisation. Chris has a great record of success within SEGB and has given us a most compelling vision of its future.”

Chris Taggart, Smart Energy GB’s next CEO, said: “I’m excited and proud to take on the role of CEO at Smart Energy GB at such an important time for the smart meter rollout. I’m looking forward to working with SEGB’s talented team and partners across industry to support even more homes and businesses to benefit from smart meters. I’d also like to thank Dan for his leadership and the significant progress Smart Energy GB has made under his tenure, and I’m excited to build on those strong foundations in the years ahead.”

About Smart Energy GB

Smart Energy GB is the independent, non-profit, government-backed organisation that helps households and small businesses across Great Britain to understand how smart meters can benefit them, their families and the environment.

We do this by working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders including charities and voluntary organisations to reach people throughout the country, including those in vulnerable circumstances, who may otherwise miss out on the opportunity to get a smart meter.

Our campaign explains the impact that having a smart meter installed has, including helping the country to build a more a reliable and affordable energy system, and how the accompanying in-home display can help you take control of your energy use and manage your household budget.
