Response from a Smart Energy GB spokesperson to media coverage

A Smart Energy GB spokesperson said: "Consumers will not face any additional costs when they choose to have their smart meter installed.  The investment in a smart energy system is spread across everyone’s bills, exactly as the costs of old analogue meters were.

"A smart, digital energy system is more efficient than an analogue one: an end to manual meter readings, a reduction in queries about inaccurate bills, and smarter management of the grid with digital technology.  The smart meter rollout will generate net £5.7 billion in savings.

"The digitisation of energy is transforming the way millions of households buy and use their energy, and bringing down Britain’s carbon footprint.  More than eight in ten people who’ve already had their smart meter installed would recommend them to others."
