Smart Energy GB announces CEO Dan Brooke to step down

Smart Energy GB, the national consumer campaign for smart meters, has announced that its Chief Executive, Dan Brooke, is to step down after nearly six years with the organisation.

Dan is leaving to fulfil a lifelong ambition to pursue a career as a professional artist.

Under his leadership, Smart Energy GB has delivered marketing and communications activity that has grown its contribution to smart meter installations in Great Britain to 60% by 2025, with take up among customers in vulnerable circumstances keeping pace with the population at large.

Notable successes within this include the Einstein marketing campaign, which data shows has been twice as effective as any previous Smart Energy GB marketing campaign, while volumes of positive media coverage generated by the organisation’s communications work reached record highs in 2025.  Collaboration has been a hallmark of Dan’s leadership, with the organisation achieving a 99% stakeholder satisfaction rating in its last stakeholder survey.

The organisation has also achieved Sunday Times Best Place to Work status (2023 and 2024) and the top level ‘leader’ status in the Disability Confident scheme.

Recruitment for a new CEO is now underway with an appointment expected to be confirmed by the Spring.

Mark Lund, Smart Energy GB Chair, said: “On behalf of the Board, I’d like to thank Dan for his service to Smart Energy GB.  He has led the organisation out of Covid, through an energy crisis and onto an outstanding level of performance with unfailing humanity and humility.  His collaborative approach among the organisation’s many stakeholders has been a feature of his tenure, and we’ll make this a priority to maintain moving forward.  It’s been a privilege to work with Dan and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Dan Brooke, Smart Energy GB CEO, said: “I’ve loved leading such a talented and high-performing team, and working closely with a wide range of colleagues across the industry, to support a clean power mission as important as the smart meter rollout.  After six years in post and delivering such a strong set of results against our organisational targets in 2025, now feels like a good time for me to pass on the baton.  I’ll be working closely with the Chairman to ensure a smooth transition to my successor.”
